regional youth climate network

empowering regional Australian youth to engage in climate change policy and action

Are you a rural or regional young person passionate about climate justice? Want to meet like-minded individuals and learn how to make your voice heard?

If you would like to join the network or help co-create the project – get in touch by emailing Maya Farmer at [email protected]

What’s the problem?  Young rural Australians are often on the frontlines of the climate crisis – experiencing droughts, bushfires and the stress it places on local communities. Yet youth in rural and regional areas often have limited access to action for climate empowerment (ACE) opportunities.  Limited resources, fewer support systems, and being further away from where decisions are made all make it harder for your voices to be heard.

What is the vision? This project aims to empower regional youth with the resources, education and support needed to take action in their communities, and advocate for better ACE policy with the government. The aim is for rural young people can be supported to lead action locally and collaborate nationally.

Rural youth network: We are aiming to build a space where rural young people can:

  • Connect with other young people across rural Australia
  • Access capacity-building resources
  • Share opportunities and support each other

Policy submission: We are looking for young people who would like to co-author a policy submission to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). This submission will center lived experiences and provide specific ideas for how to improve ACE for regional youth.

Why should you be involved?

  • Be part of a youth-led, rural-focused climate network
  • Gain tools, resources, and peer support to take action
  • Work together to advocate for fairer climate policies
  • Build connections with like-minded young people across Australia
  • Have the chance to contribute to local, national, and global change

If you are a young person living in regional or rural Australia, and have an interest in climate change action – join the network and co-create the project!
