2025 Local Conference of Youth

Co-hosted with UN Youth Australia and supported by UNICEF Australia

The 2025 National Child and Youth Statement captures the lived realities of children and young people growing up in Australia and the actions they believe are needed for just and equitable climate action. Developed through 27 in-person consultations, an online survey, and two national LCOYs between May and August 2025, it reflects the voices of 812 young people aged 10 to 30 from across diverse urban, regional, and remote communities. The Statement highlights key themes including health and wellbeing, climate mitigation and adaptation, disaster response, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, and meaningful Pacific partnerships. All LCOY consultations took place under the mandate of YOUNGO, the official children and youth constituency to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Consultations were held in most capital cities, and in some regional areas including Dubbo, Coffs Harbour, with contributions from the Uluru Youth Dialogue. Thank you to those who participated in the 2025 LCOY consultation process, or contributed to the writing of the 2025 National Youth Statement.
